With a wealth of experience of foster care as a child and parent as well as battles with family proceedings, mental health and trauma, Azariah is passionate about reparative work for communities as well as the collective effort required for restorative and generational breaking work to take place for those willing to take the journey. This involves empowering and equipping professionals to take new approaches and create legacy impacts within the community. With 2 children removed and adopted at the age of 19 then successfully discharging the care order over her third, enabling her to parent her youngest two children, she observed that many parts of her story were too common and saw space for her experiences to contribute to fuelling change and demonstrating that suspected trajectory is what is failing those who need support the most.

​Ruth’s experiences as a teen single parent led to her later train to become a social worker however, it was some years later that the experiences of her youngest (adopted) children and their first family increased her understanding of the impact of trauma on children and families, and the too often-devastating impact of familial separation and adoption on all concerned. The reunification of her youngest children with their first family increased Ruth’s passion to ensure families are better supported to reduce the use of out of home care, particularly adoption, and to find creative and trauma sensitive approaches to supporting parents and families, ensuring they can safely stay together.
